CLUB NOTES 26TH JULY

Cahir Park Golf Club Notes 26th July 2010


In the Senior Mens Competition played on Tuesday 20th August the winners were Jimmy OFarrell and John Phelan with 33 Pts just beating Paul Sarsfield and Richie Downey on the last 9 with in 3rd place Derek Runacres and Paddy ODwyer with 32 Pts and in 4th place Arthur ODonnell and Michael Nugent with 32 Pts and 5th John Roycroft and Joe Davis with 32 Pts . Seniors Golf continues every Tuesday at 10.30 am. On August 10th Youghal will be in Cahir Park.

The Open Seniors played on Tuesday 20th August the winner was P Beneid of Mahon Golf Club playing off 16 with a good 40 Pts just getting the better of J Dorney from Mallow Golf Club playing off 14 also on 40 Pts and in 3rd place J Flynn (14) from Carrick on Suir with 38 Pts. Its good to see the visitors playing well and winning a place in the Grand Final of this competition which will be played on Tuesday 14th September for valuable prizes.The Senior Qualifier is played every Tuesday with entry of €10 for visitors and €5 for members The CSS was 38 Pts

On Wednesday 21st of August we had a big entry for the AIBP Open Qualifier and despite the awful showers and thunder storms we had some good scoring with Martin Dawe from Slievenamon playing off 16 bringing in a very good score of 42 Pts. In 2nd place was Donal McCarthy playing off 20 with 38 Pts just getting the better of Dinny Ryan ( 13) from Rosegreen on the countback also with 38 Pts. The Gross was won by Jimmy Hickey (4) with 33 Pts. All the winners qualify for the Grand Final on Saturday 25th September. The CSS was Home and Away 37 Pts

Last weekend we had our Intermediate and Minor Scratch Cups very kindl;y sponsored by Buttimer Engineering of Cahir.

The Inter Scratch Cup was won by Pat O Flynn playing off 13 handicap with 77. In second place was a young star for the future Dylan Burke playing off 12 handicap for the last time with 78, and in third place Martin Hayes from Thurles with 79. The Nett prize went to Eddie Egan playing off 13 with an excellent 65.

In the Minor Scratch Cup the winner was Colin Aylward playing off 17 with 83 winning on the last 9 from Donal McCarthy (20) also with 83 Third place went to Eugene Wynn playing off 18 with 84 also getting there on the last 9. The Nett prize was won by Dave Williams playing off 19 with a very good 65.

In the Junior Competition played on Monday 19th July the winner was Liam Casey ( 20) with 38 Pts from in second place Colin OGorman with 35 Pts and the Gross was won by Jack Ahearn with 26 Pts . The Junior competition continues every Monday until September.




Next weekend we have an Open Weekend kindly Sponsored by Clonmel Oil. On Friday Saturday and Sunday we have an 18 Hole Singles and on Monday there is an Open Team of 4 any combination and also Open Singles.On the following weekend 8th and 9th of August we will have Club President Jimmy Keatings Prize. This will be 18 Hole Stableford for Ladies and Gents playing off the Blue Markers with a 12 Hole playoff for the men at 5pm Sharp. The leading 21 players ONLY will qualify for the playoff. The timesheet is in the bar and there will be a draw for partners just like in the Captains Prize on Thursday 6th August.

In the Club competitions eg Scratch Matchplay, Club Singles, Mixed Foursomes and Club Fourball all remaining matches must be played as soon as possible or you risk being scratched from the competition by the Competitions committee. There is a large no of Swipe cards to be collected in the bar at present so anybody missing a new card or awaiting a replacement card check in the Bar.

Congradulations to our Club Pro David Ryan who will be playing in the 3 Irish Open in Killarney this weekend. This is a great achievement for David, his first opportunity in big time Pro Golf and we wish him all the best and hope that as many as possible from Cahir Park will make the trip to Killarney to give him support. Congradulations to our lowest handicap golfer Emmett Leahy winning at least 2 rounds in the South of Ireland Championships in Lahinch. Emmett defeated Kieran Maher in the first round on Saturday playing very steady golf,then on Sunday in the second round he defeated Eddie Power a former Irish Close Champion. Today Monday he is playing the third round and we will have more news next week.
At home hard luck to the Heineken Cup team who lost out to Mitchelstown last Thursday in a very close match loosing on the 19th in the deciding match
